Description

TOTAL Design Commission

The Design Commission was established in 2014 to recognise outstanding innovation and achievement by young Emiratis in the fields of design and architecture. The competitive award seeks to nurture potential and encourage creative practice by providing a launch-pad for emerging designers and architects across the UAE.

Admission and selection criteria:

  • Submissions are welcome from Emirati nationals aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • Each application must be supported by a nominator.
  • Group Applications are accepted of up to 2 members.
  • Nominator and Applicant are requested to submit a completed application form together with a design proposal in the category of Applied Arts (Interior design, industrial design, graphic design, or architecture)
  • A jury selects the winner and shall be looking for the following attributes in entries: Concept Development, Feasibility of Design, Functionality and usefulness, Creativity and Originality, and Overall Aesthetic.


Winner(s)

  • The winner receives a fully paid international professional development opportunity tailored to his/her career.
  • The winner will attend the Award ceremony which may take place during the Abu Dhabi Festival in March 2018 and receive a certificate.
  • The winning work will be displayed in one of the Abu Dhabi Festival venues in March 2018

Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award

In partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD)

This acclaimed award is a unique launch-pad for emerging visual artists who create a complete artistic concept and production plan for a work that interacts with the environment and challenges the conventional exhibition format. Open to full-time under and postgraduate students in the UAE or a UAE resident who has graduated from a UAE institution within the last five years. Submissions can be made by up to three people together with a Mentor and should include biographies, creative statement, planned production schedule & budget.
The winner will directly receive $10,000 to enable the production of the new work. At the end of their exhibition, the artist will then be gifted $5,000 by Christo himself to fund future artistic projects, study and/ or work experience.

ADMAF Creativity Award

The Award was established in 1996 to celebrate outstanding young national creativity in the visual and performing arts, literature and film. The 2018 version of the Award, however, will only accept applications in the Film category.

Admission and selection criteria:

  • Entries are welcome from Emirati nationals aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • Each application must be supported by a nominator.
  • Group applications are accepted of up to 2 members.
  • The film should not be more than 3 years old.
  • Nominator and applicant are requested to submit a completed application form together with a completed work in the category of video/film (2 to 30 mins)  
  • A jury selects the winner. They will be looking for the following attributes in the entries: Artistic Merit, Evidence of original and creative thinking, Personal application of technical skills


Winner(s)

  • The winner will receive a cash prize of AED 10,000
  • The winner will be invited to participate in the Young Filmmakers Circle workshops taking place in March 2018 and Fall 2018
  • The winner will join FEMIS summer course 2018 in France, trip to be fully paid by ADMAF
  • The winner will attend the Award ceremony which may take place during the Abu Dhabi Festival in March 2018
  • The winning work will be displayed in one of the Abu Dhabi Festival venues in March 2018

Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award

The Abu Dhabi Festival Visual Arts Award was launched in 2013 and is an annual prize offering 10,000AED to the Emirati emerging artist between the age of 18 and 35 years who demonstrates outstanding creativity in an original artwork inspired by the Abu Dhabi Festival exhibition. The Award seeks to nurture talent and creativity among emerging Emirati artists and Emirati undergraduate students of the visual arts in universities across the UAE. Applications from students from universities which have a strategic partnership with ADMAF are especially welcome. These are New York University Abu Dhabi, the Higher Colleges of Technology, Zayed University, University of Sharjah and UAE University.

 

 

Admission and selection criteria: Emirati emerging artists aged between 18 and 35 years old are eligible to apply. Registered applicants will then be requested to submit a completed form together with an original artwork in any of the following fields:

  • Video / Film/ Animation
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts (painting, sculpture, installation, etc.)

 

A jury selects the winner. They will be looking for the following attributes in the submissions:

  • Evidence of how the work was inspired by the Abu Dhabi Festival 2018 exhibition
  • Artistic Merit
  • Evidence of original and creative thinking
  • Personal application of technical skills
  • Emotional Impact


The winner will receive a cash prize of AED 10,000
