Chair of the Arab Fund for Arts & Culture, former Lebanese Minister of Culture and Special Advisor to the UN Secretary-General recognised for his outstanding contribution to the cultural sector of the Arab world

Abu Dhabi Festival Award presented to Dr. Ghassan Salamé

The Abu Dhabi Festival Award, in association with Chopard, was presented to former Lebanese Minister of Culture and Special Advisor to the United Nations Secretary-General, Dr. Ghassan Salamé by H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Artistic Director of the Abu Dhabi Festival, in a ceremony in Paris on 20 May 2017.

An internationally acclaimed academic, Dr. Ghassan Salamé is Founder and Chairman of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC), Professor of International Relations at Sciences Po, Paris and Columbia University, New York, and Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs, Paris.

H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo said “It is our mission to inspire future generations of academic and cultural leaders by recognising the figures in our society that have made significant contributions to these fields throughout their careers. We are delighted to present the Abu Dhabi Festival Award to Dr. Ghassan Salamé in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the cultural scene in the Arab world.”

On receiving the Award, Dr. Ghassan Salamé said, "I am humbled and proud to be distinguished by such a pioneering and successful endeavour in the country I cherish."

Dr. Salamé has served on the boards of several non-government organisations, most notably the International Crisis Group in Brussels, the International Peace Institute in New York, the Open Society Foundation in New York, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, the Board of the Dispute Resolution Centre in New York and the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in Geneva. Dr. Salamé has written numerous books and essays in Arabic and French. He is the author of “State and Society in the Arab Levant” and “Foreign Police of Saudi Arabia since 1945 – A Study on International Relations.”
