Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and American University of Sharjah sign Memorandum of Understanding
Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening the existing relationship with American University of Sharjah (AUS), one of the region’s leading educational institutions. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in a ceremony at the Emirates Palace by H.E. Huda Ebrahim Alkhamis, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of American University of Sharjah.. The partnership will focus on ADMAF’s continuous investment in the creativity of young people in the UAE and in emerging national creative practitioners through various collaborations and initiatives.
H.E. Huda Ebrahim Alkhamis, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) said, “We are extremely delighted to solidify our longstanding collaboration with American University of Sharjah and continue our shared vision to nurture creative excellence across multiple disciplines. Through this Memorandum of Understanding, we will be able to further achieve our goals of raising awareness about creativity, arts and culture as career options for students in the UAE and providing the faculty with a platform for research and development that will directly benefit academic performance. Arts and culture is the glue that binds society and we must encourage the younger generation to develop their knowledge, skills and creative aptitude for the benefit of the future of the UAE.”
Dr. Björn Kjerfve, Chancellor of American University of Sharjah, said, “We are pleased to be signing this agreement with ADMAF. Our collaborations in the past have resulted in a wide range of activities that have proved immensely successful. As a university, we have a strong commitment towards the arts. This commitment is reflected in our Performing Arts Program, one of the rare programs of its kind available in the region, as well as in partnerships with distinguished entities such as ADMAF.”
The strategic partnership will further exchange, dialogue, opportunities and collaboration opportunities between the academic institution and the foundation that was formed in 2014. The first initiative from this collaboration in 2014 was a highly successful Outreach Programme, consisting of a series of six workshops aimed at raising students’ awareness in the arts and applied arts as potential career paths in the future.
ADMAF and American University of Sharjah’s longstanding relationship has seen a number of student activities being held throughout the years. From November 2015 – November 2016, a series of Design Workshops were conducted with UAE high schools at American University of Sharjah, led by the university’s College of Architecture, Arts and Design with AHMAD supporting to coordinate and provide all materials and supplies.
The collaboration between the two institutions has included the 2015 Christo and Jeanne Claude Award, presented to Nada Al Mulla and Salwa Al Khudairi, and the 2016 Christo and Jeanne Claude Award, presented to Khalid al Tamimi, Mohamed Abualhuda and Ghanem Mohamed Younes, all students of American University of Sharjah. As part of the Riwaq Al Fikr series and the Abu Dhabi Festival 2015 and 2016, ADMAF also collaborated with American University of Sharjah with lectures by the internationally renowned Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas and acclaimed French graphic designer Philippe Apeloig.
The Abu Dhabi Festival is presented and organised by Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation. ADMAF is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that seeks to nurture the arts, education, culture and creativity for the benefit of society and advancement of Abu Dhabi’s cultural vision.
