Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and Renowned Visual Artist Christo Sign Letter of Cooperation

Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) has signed a Letter of Cooperation (LOC) with acclaimed artist Christo, building on a five year partnership that has seen numerous initiatives supporting the promotion of visual arts in the UAE. The Letter of Cooperation was signed in a ceremony yesterday at NYU Abu Dhabi by H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and Christo, following the unveiling of the winning artwork of the 2017 Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award. This agreement will focus on the development of joint educational activities that foster growth, development and awareness of the visual arts, with a particular focus on the visual arts practitioners, students and young people of the UAE.

H.E. Huda Alkhamis-Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) and the Abu Dhabi Festival said; “Since ADMAF’s first collaboration with Christo in 2012 it has been clear that our missions and visions align. ADMAF has worked for more than 20 years to nurture generations of creative practitioners with the goal of creating an ecosystem for culture and creative education in the UAE.  We are delighted to reaffirm our partnership with Christo as we look ahead to many more years of collaboration. Relationships such as this further ADMAF’s role as an incubator for the arts, facilitating ties between the UAE and the cultural sector worldwide.”

Christo said; “It has been 5 years since the first display of a public artwork by a winner of the NYUAD Christo and Jeanne Claude award and I'm very happy that with ADMAF’s commitment and support participation in the award continues to grow every year.”

ADMAF and Christo first collaborated in 2012 when The Christo & Jeanne-Claude Award was launched as an annual initiative under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan and in partnership with New York University Abu Dhabi. In addition, Christo has joined forces with ADMAF for its ‘Ways of Seeing’ programme of visual arts workshops and talks in university and college campuses across the UAE in addition to the ADMAF Pavilion at Abu Dhabi Art in 2012. Over the last five years, ADMAF and Christo have engaged approximately 3,000 young people across the UAE to explore the possibilities of artistic expression and how they see the world around us.

Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s monumental work, Floating Piers on Lake Iseo in Italy was the world’s most-visited work of art in 2016.

With this LOC, Christo joins ADMAF’s network of international strategic cultural partners which include: European Union Youth orchestra, BOZAR, La Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth, Institut du Monde Arabe, Institut Francais, Jordan Media Institute, Baalbeck International Festival, Mariinsky, Foundation for Arab Music Archiving and Research, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Queen Sofia College of Music, Edinburgh International Festival, Manchester International Festival, Royal Opera House, The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, University of London – School of Oriental & African Studies, Shubbak Festival of Contemporary Arab Culture, American ballet Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Cleveland Clinic Arts & Medicine Institute, Jazz at Lincoln Centre, The Metropolitan Live in HD, Barenboim Foundation, and British Council.
