Art exhibition gives victimized women a voice of their own

Ewa’a Shelters for Women & Children in association with the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation last night launched the Silent Voices exhibition at the Ghaf Art Gallery in Abu Dhabi. The exhibition, which will run until 17th May showcases artwork produced by women residents at Ewa’a Shelters, many of whom are victims of domestic abuse and human trafficking.

The exhibition was opened by H.H. Sheikha Shamsa Bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan who was accompanied by H.E. Mrs Sarah Shuhail, Executive Director of the Ewaa Shelters and H.E. Mrs Hoda Al Khamis Kanoo, Founder of the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation.

Speaking after the ribbon cutting ceremony Mrs Kanoo underlined the importance of the exhibition and the vital work carried out by Ewa’a Shelters.

 “The artwork on show here represents the dreams, nightmares and turmoil that so many of these women have endured. The aim of this exhibition and the art workshops that preceded it is to inculcate a sense of worth, rebuild confidence and to support the emotional development of these women and young girls. Ewa’a Shelters have do amazing work and we at ADMAF are proud to support this initiative.”

All proceeds from the sale of this exhibition will be donated to Ewa’a Shelters.
