Lang Lang delights audience with exuberance and charm at headline Abu Dhabi Festival performance

One of the most sought after classical musicians on the planet, Lang Lang astounded an Abu Dhabi Festival audience last night as he delivered an electrifying piano recital showcasing his style, charisma and energy during a performance at Emirates Palace. Heralded by The New York Times as the “hottest artist on the classical music planet”, the Chinese pianist graced the Festival’s stage for a mesmerising two-hour performance of pieces by Tchaikovsky, Bach and Chopin.

Displaying all sides of his charismatic personality, Lang Lang took his audience on an emotional journey performing the ever-popular ‘Seasons’ by Tchaikovsky. This contrasted with Bach’s ‘Italian Concerto’ in a flamboyant interpretation which highlighted Lang Lang’s virtuosity. Finally, the great showman’s performance of Chopin’s ‘Four Scherzos’ brought the Festival audience to its feet.

Inspiring millions around the world with his emotive playing, Lang Lang has performed with globally renowned names including Plácido Domingo, Metallica, Pharrell Williams, Julio Inglesias and Herbie Hancock. Priding himself on mentoring the next generation of young musicians, Lang Lang gave a masterclass as part of Abu Dhabi Festival’s ‘Back to School’ initiative which provides gifted young students from Abu Dhabi the opportunity to perform for and receive guidance from international stars.

Running until 30 April 2016, upcoming Abu Dhabi Festival headline performances include Orchestre de Paris (15/17 April), the Festival’s much anticipated concert version of The Little Prince musical (21-22 April), and Carlos Acosta and Friends (25-26 April). The 2016 Festival will also see the return of the much acclaimed Festival Recital Series featuring the Joey Alexander Trio (27 April) and the Alfredo Rodríguez Trio (28 April) at New York University Abu Dhabi Arts Center.
