3 Generations Exhibition 25th Jul 2013

‘Three Generations’ curated by Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) officially opens at Sotheby’s London to rave reviews

The first UK art exhibition of established and emerging artists from the United Arab Emirates, ‘Three Generations’, was ceremonially inaugurated last night by HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum; Sir David Brewer Lord Lieutenant Of Greater London at London’s Sotheby’s in the presence of H.E. Hoda I. Al Khamis-Kanoo, Founder of Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation; The Rt Hon Donald Wilson, Lord Provost of the City of Edinburgh; Lord Mark Poltimore, Chair of Sotheby's  and over 150 invited guests.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative of the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, ‘Three Generations’ is a significant milestone for the growth and development of the Arts in the United Arab Emirates, as it propels these  Emirati artists onto an international stage. Curated by Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF), the exhibition further reflects ADMAF’s unwavering commitment to support and nurture Emirati talent, and promote their art locally, regionally and globally.

The 12 works to be exhibited, by 12 different artists, highlight the creative practices of three generations of Emirati visual artists. Together, they use a wide range of media in expressing a dynamic cultural identity that is both rooted in the traditions of the past while firmly focusing on the present and the future.

‘Three Generations’ presents a snapshot of the breadth and depth of the creative expression in the United Arab Emirates rather than seeking to mount a comprehensive overview of Emirati visual arts practice.
